Seaeye Falcon

The Ocean Dynamics Falcon ROVs. Controlled from the vessel, the live video feedback gives operators and clients the information needed to complete any task. Two ROVs with different capabilities and depth ratings allow the use of the best tool for each specific job.

The Ocean Dynamics ROVs

Imaging

Camera is a Mini Zeus Mark II High resolution camera with a 4000m depth rating, optically polished hemispherical precision glass pressure window, 3.8mm-38mm lens with 10x optical zoom, and a 1 / 2.8 “Exmor” CMOS Image Sensor. The ROV can also be fitted with an onboard powered GoPro (Hero4 Silver) which can record HD video (1080p) onto an internal card with over 8 hour storage capacity and can be downloaded after the dive.

Lasers and Lighting

Ocean Dynamics’ ROVs are equipped with a pair of green Deep Sea Power and Light (DSPL) laser powered from the ROV. They are mounted on top of the camera square and level to the ROV frame at a distance of 6 cm apart. Being mounted directly on the camera means they move with the camera assembly and are always in good view of both SD and HD video making field of view (FOV) and object measurements on the screen easier to see and calculate.

LED lighting all are variable intensity and pilot controlled. All have the same colour temperature and each light at full power produce 3220 lumens. We can modify the number and placement of the lights to meet the needs of the project, running with a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 4, meaning with all 4 lights at full power we can produce 12,880 lumens.

Data Logging and Video Overlay

Underwater navigation data is logged using our specialized software specifically built for ROV operations. We can log ROV position, depth and heading every second. Using time from the ROV synced to the software, all positions can be directly related back to the Heads Up Display (HUD) video time.

We have integrated an overlay into the falcon video system from our navigation system, meaning we can overlay the ROV fix position onto the video screen updated in real time. This allows for quick reference to a GPS coordinate for all items on video. All raw data can be post processed as navigation files for all ROV missions. The integrated overlay also allows for naming the mission on screen, for example a transect name or number code can be added and recorded along with rest of the overlay.
